I mean it! I'll cut those pointy ears off!

Would you credit it? You lose an advanced, signed copy of Joe Abercrombie’s Best Served Cold, you purchase your own, and a bloody Jedi master thinks he can read it before you! Honestly, the cheek!
I’ll tell you this for free, the good side of the force isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.
So blogamites, it’s been exactly one month to the day since my last post. I really milked that birthday post, eh? Would it not be groovy if we could have a birthmonth instead of a birthday?
I think some people might be nodding their heads at that one, and some might be grabbing their hearts and wallets.
What have I been up to this past month? Well, I’ve been doing a stock take in work, and that involves counting millions of different kinds of cladding screws. Mind numbing work you might think, but the thing is, shove your ipod on and there is something to be said for monotonous work. You see, my job usually involves constant selling. I chat to customers all day, and sometimes that can be hard on the brain. Not because there’s any energy used by being a natural chat monster, but because most people I talk to have the same line of conversation. Lately it’s been the credit crunch, or swine flu. There’s only so much a man can take of that kind of chat, before he starts staring at ceiling tiles whilst picking his nose.
But enough about work, I came here to play, and play I will damn you!
After the footy season is over, I often like to take off round Scotland for the weekend. So last Saturday, I headed off to Culzean castle. It’s about fifty miles from Glasgow in a straight line, so I drove with my eyes closed. It has an American connection because the Earl that owned it, Earl Kennedy, got a bit strapped for cash and his American cousin helped him pay his builders.
Eisenhower even had his oval office in the castle, which you can look at through a glass window. There’s a picture of his Mrs, two big black phones, a paper from WW2 on his desk, and his uniform jacket, hanging on his not so comfy looking chair. I really wanted to lick that jacket. What?
Anyway, I didn’t get any pictures of inside the castle, but here’s some I did get!
WARNING: Pictures may keep going, and are in no way a good representative of my true hairy manliness.
When I parked the Marky wagon, I came across these white stags. Do you think they go white in the sun? Just like dog crap?

Being the big kid that I am, I climbed down to the beach only to discover somebody had stolen all the sand!(Must have been the English)

Of course, climbing back up that bloody great big cliff, wasn't as easy as going down it.

After sicking up my meatball subway, I took to walking the wrong way in tunnels. Fresh air does strange things to a man.

I did however, find a tree to hide in until my senses came back!

And then I remembered there was a castle about somewhere, so I took some dodgy pictures of it because I was jealous.

And lastly, I'd like to vent my disgust at the fact that it doesn't matter if you stand in front of a lake for three hours, you're still not going to see a hand come out of it with a sword that will make you the rightful King of Britain. How sucky is that!?!

That's all for now folks. Just remember, if you have to pee the bed, do it on her side.

Marky, you updated! woohoo! Happy day!
Looks like you had a great trip. Nice pics. Let me know what you think of Best Served Cold... still a few weeks before we get it "over here".
Here's hopin' you update again soon!
You wanted to "lick the jacket"? (shrug) must be a Scottish thing.
Great pics, superb writing, and funny to boot - but ya'll always did have an edge on humor.
Hey Marky! Looking forward to reading "Best Served Cold" as soon as possible.
Lucky you, I assume you've read it by now, unless Yoda is hogging it.
Thanks for the pics, I love castles. I think it is because we have a distinct lack of them here. Unless you count the one at Disneyland...or the faux castles built by the uber-rich.
As you can see I am posting this on Saturday. I'm obviously taking your advice to slow down my crazy social life...
Psych! It is only 4:00p.m.! The night is so young it hasn't been born.
Cheers, David. Best Served Cold is quality, so far. I managed a couple of hundred pages at the weekend, and I'm very impressed. It is well worth the wait.
Paula, thanks for stopping by. It is a Scottish thing. We usually lick windows to test the temperature outside, but mostly, we just do it to get the taste of haggis from our mouths.
Sedulo, I would have finished BSC by now if it wasn't for people interrupting me! All weekend I've had Shona bending my ear about a holiday. We've settled for a week in Fuerteventura this September. It took lots of sifting through different holiday companies before we choose one at half ten last night!
I heard that ESPN might be taking over the football coverage for the Scottish premier league next season. So we might have a Disney connection ourselves!!
We will be the laughing stock of the football world. The SPL, sponsored by Disney. Nooooooooooo! We're not a Mickey Mouse league!
And I hope you spent the weekend with your feet up. If not, I'll tell Joe on ya! He still has an Ibomb you know!
And if anybody has any ideas how to tell a Jedi master that he's outstayed his welcome, I'd be most gratified to hear it.
Were you one of the winners from Joe Abercrombie's contest? Or did you beat up a winner and steal their book?
On a side note, I always wanted a castle. When I was little, I was obsessed with Arthurian legend, and consequently I wanted to live in a castle. This persisted for too many years, and I really believed I'd be able to build one and dwell in it. And then one day reality hits me in the face, screaming "IT'S NOT ECONOMICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, OR EVEN PRACTICAL YOU TURD. DREAM ON!" Ah...
Nice pictures, though.
Logan, yeah. I was one of the winners. I never got the book though; it was lost in the post.
I know what you mean about castles, they are pretty cool. You can make them environmentally friendly and practical though. There have been castles sold in Scotland, Ireland and Italy that have been renovated to a high standard.
There's a really cool story about a guy who built his own in England recently. He basically didn't have planning permission to build a house on his farm, so he built a tower of haystacks all around his land, and built his castle.
There is a law that if you build something in England, and nobody objects for four years, it's allowed to stand. After his four years were up, he pulled down the haystacks and revealed his castle.
The local council then told him that the building had to be visible for four years. He's now looking to another law that states that every man is entitled to his own castle, so he's written to the Queen in the hope of keeping his castle under this ancient law! So far, it’s still standing.
Ha! That castle story is priceless! Thanks for updating... except that this was two weeks ago, which means you're due for another post! I suppose I am, as well...
Due for another post!!!??! Already!
It's only been a couple of weeks!
Oh the pressure!
What has happened to Joe? I'm going to check.
"Strange women lying around in ponds handing out swords is no basis for a proper system of government."
I believe that's from the Magna Carta. So, you can wait by the lake/loch as long as you like, the watery tart ain't coming 'cause she's been outlawed.
You are posting and reading more than I am right now. I've got a stack of no less than five books sitting on my bedside table that I have not started. And a "last blogged" date that could be considered a vintage if I made wine instead of blogged. (Granted it would only be fit for the consuption of Neds but that's another story)
WV: unheelag - when a woman missteps in her stiletto boots she experiences unheelag.
Ciao!
Rusty, how you doing bud? Good to hear from you. If only life wouldn't get in the way of the beauty of the written word, eh.
I believe that system of government could work, given the right amount of time to get things right, and about £300m to get the right architect to design an all new round table!
Instead of parliament, we could have laws that only get passed by whoever has the biggest pointy sword.....Hmmmm. I think it's been done before.
